Umhlanga Business Network Unveils R100 Million Innovation Initiative for Philanthropy and Economic Growth in eThekwini

The Umhlanga Business Network (UBN) hosted a landmark event on Friday, 21 February at the Mount Edgecombe Country Club, bringing together key business leaders, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to explore the future of economic and social transformation in eThekwini.

The City Manager of eThekwini Municipality, Musa Mbhele, outlined the city’s strategic direction and emerging business opportunities, followed by the official launch of the R100 million ‘Gateway to Innovation in Philanthropy’ initiative by UBN Vice Presidents Ashok Sewnarain and Ravin Rajoo.

This exclusive gathering provided insights into the municipality’s plans for economic growth, infrastructure development, and business-friendly policies. The City Manager presented a roadmap highlighting investment opportunities, economic revitalization strategies, and initiatives aimed at creating a thriving commercial environment in Durban.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of the R100 million Gateway to Innovation in Philanthropy, a ground-breaking initiative designed to empower non-profit organizations through innovative funding models, technology-driven solutions, and capacity-building programs. Developed in collaboration with UBN, REGENT Business School, and leading philanthropic partners*, this initiative aims to revolutionize the non-profit sector by fostering sustainability, governance excellence, and digital transformation.

UBN President, Dr Suren Lutchminarayan, Vice Presidents, Ashok Sewnarain and Ravin Rajoo, stated:
